I am trying to make a few words blink in excel. Is this possible? If so how?

There are no text effects in Excel such as in Word (not sure about XP though).
If you want to have some blinking stuff, you'd have to create a shape with text in it and write code to make it blink by switching the Visible property from True to False. You could use the OnTime method to set the interval to 1 second. You could have the "blink" macro run for a certain time, or as long as the sheet is open. Coding for the latter would be much more complex.
