make thumbnails on server

Hi,

can somenone help me out with this, please;
in my site, people can upload pictures to the server. Then by using thumbnailer, I can make previews and put them into a specific directory.
The prob is now that I still have to do this myself. I want that as soon as someone puts an image in the map 'images', a program or application should automatically make a thumbnail and put it into the map 'thumbnails'.

Is someone familiar with this kind of things
Please help me out then

I don't know if it is possible to totally automate it, but I have used an active-x component embedded in a webpage to change the size and colour depth of a picture. The component I used was ImageMan Active-X from Data Techniques
