Make this monitor primay Windows XP

I have a laptop that I want to have a large monitor attached to.

When I right click on the desktop and go to properties and try to make the large monitor the primary one, the selection is grayed out.

How do I make my large monitor the primary one?

If I have not given enough information, please let me know.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop.

I found this:

To switch between internal display only, external display (monitor) only, or both simultaneously, hold down the "Fn" key and push the "F5" key.

However, doing this does nothing to the display.
