Hello.

I am using CR XI R2 on Win XP. I would like to configure my reports to use the default printer when a user chooses to print a report. Anyone know where to set this?

I have found the option in Page Setup to set the configuration to no printer. However, from what I've read, there should be a place to make the report choose whatever default printer is installed.

See:
To ensure the report is using the default printer driver, complete the followings steps:

...

For 32-bit Crystal Reports:

=================

1. Launch Crystal Reports and open the report.

2. From 'File', click 'Printer Setup'.

3. Select 'No Printer'.

4. Click 'OK' to return to the report.

5. Save and close the report.

This clears the previous printer settings.

6. Re-open the report, and return to the Printer Setup.

7. In 32-bit Crystal Reports: Clear the 'No Printer' check box.

By completing the steps for 16-bit and 32-bit Crystal Reports you automatically restore the default printer in the 'Name' box. To ensure that the default printer settings have been restored check the 'Status' Box. It should read as follows:

"Status: Default printer: Ready."

The printer setup is now configured to use the default printer properties. The default printer properties are in effect when the 'Default Properties' check box is selected.

This means when the report is printing on a separate computer from where it was originally created, it will print using that computer's default printer and printer's default properties.

Cheers,

I have the same problem here. I followed the steps you mentioned but still can not clear the default printer in the rpt file.

BTW, your method is for old Crystal Reports. In CR11, there is no "printer setup" but only "page setup".

In page setup, select the "No Printer" option. This should remove any printer specs from the report. When someone chooses to print the report, the printer dialog will pop up with the default printer selected - but will give the option to select a different printer.

Also, be aware that when you select "No Printer", crystal will adjust the size of certain objects in the report. Not the actual font size, but the amount of screen space that each item occupies. I had to carefully review all elements in my reports and adjust a handful that had shrunk for some reason.

If you check "no printer", the user must choose a printer before printing, which is not very pleasant for everybody.
Also, this method (checking "no printer") still does not remove the printer you selected before from this report file!
Why is there not a way to remove the printer saved in the rpt file and always use the default printer on users' OS to print?
