I'm new to Illustrator and so my questions may seem niave, but I'm a photoshop girl generally so I'm struggling somewhat.

In PS, there is a "Make Guide" feature that I can use to put a guide at the exact location I want (by selecting H or V pixel placement"). Is there any such feature in Illustrator? I see the "Make Guide" feature, but it is not selectable for some reason.

Also - on a side note, is there a way to change the image size without scaling? Meaning, can I just specify somewhere the canvas width and height like in PS? Thanks for any responses.

Mally,

The "Make Guides" feature is if you want to use a shape as a guide. If you have a rectangle and you want to use it as a guide, select it and choose Make Guides.

For what you're looking for, use the Transform pallette (Shift + F8). You have to select the guide and then enter the location you want to place it at. In order to select the guide, it must be unlocked. You can simply right-click and select "Lock Guides" to make it unchecked if you need to. Then use a selection tool and select the guide. Then enter the information into the Transform Pallette. Hope that works.

To change the canvas size like you mentioned, go to File, then choose Document Setup. You should be able to specify new dimensions at that point.

Incidentally I'm using Illustrator 9.0. If you have a later version things might be the same, but they might be a little different. I haven't used vs.10 or CS very much.

good luck
