Make MDE from Visual Basic

I wish to create an MDE database from an mdb programmatically using Visual Basic.

I have the code from the Microsoft Knowledgebase (Q195949) but this uses sendkeys and I find that unreliable and unstable.

The database is larger than 30mg so I must be able to control when the process starts and when it finishes
