I would like to know the packages that are need to have make installed.

You need something like the GNU gcc compiler - see for details of how to obtain this. Alternatively, Sun will supply their C compiler as part of their workshop tools, but this is not free. Hope this helps.

There is a version of make that gets installed as part of the base OS in /usr/ccs/bin - even if you don't have a compiler. I don't know if this is in a package, or just part of the base install.
