Make hyperlink always email

I have a database with an email field that is a hyperlink. Is there a way I can make it always be an email hyperlink? My users always forget to change from URL to email and then when I click to send an email, it opens their website. Any suggestions? My knowledge is quite limited...just enough to be dangerous. In the table, you can set the validation rule for the field to
"*@*"

You will find the validation rule in the Field Properties box.

The will require that the field always contain an @ character. Then in the Validation text, you can put

"Please make sure this is an email address"

That might help.
