Make Download link to .exe file on My PC

I am trying to link to an .exe file on my Pc so my site visitors can download this file. When I click the link to file button in Frontpage 98 it goes to this path:

file:///C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Downloads/Uploads/Debt.exe

I can download it when I publish the Site but if I try from another PC I get the Cannot find file Error in iExplorer

Any help will be greatly apprciated.

The server is trying to execute it. I had to set the permissions on my directory on the server to NONE (no excecute) so that it would download in stead of executing it.

I set those permissions using my ADMIN page on the server, not through Front Page.

The reason why you receive an error when trying from another PC is because of the way the link has been created...

It would appear you have created a link similar to:
<a href=&quot;file:///C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Downloads/Uploads/Debt.exe&quot;>Download</a>

Now, on your computer (let's call it A) when you click on this link the browser sees that it needs to access C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Downloads/Uploads/Debt.exe and does with no problems because C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Downloads/Uploads/Debt.exe exists on your computer.

On another computer (B) when you click on this link, the browser sees that it needs to access C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Downloads/Uploads/Debt.exe , but because browser sees that it needs to access C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Downloads/Uploads/Debt.exe does not exist on this computer, it cannot find it and returns an error.

To fix this, import the .exe file into your frontpage web, then re-link it. After that upload the .exe and html files to where they are being served from, and try again. You should find this works....
