Hi all,
I will be soon demoting/retiring my first DC. I have read the FAQ on how to do this and am ready to go except am curious about what to do with DNS. My first DC is currently my primary DNS - I have a secondary DNS server as well. I wish to transfer my FMSO roles to a new server along with DNS. Do I create a New PRIMARY DNS on my new server and just clone the setup I have now on my current primary DNS machine, or do I create a BACKUP DNS on my new server and somehow promote it to primary - if this solution is in fact correct then how do I do the "promotion"?

Of course after all is said and done I will change my DHCP, reset all my servers' static IP, kill DNS in my current first server, etc. to reflect the new reality.

BTW DNS here is pretty simple - single site/forest/etc. - nuthin' fancy.

TIA,

- Kevin
