Hi everybody
I have a department here whose want I make a program to allow them make their own backup for their database without using the SQL-backup.

What is warring me is not the backup is when somebody of this peoples could need to make a restore. Because could crash with the rulers business of the database.

If somebody have done this before I will appreciate any commentaries.

Thank.

If you are talking about NT file backups then I have some experience of doing this in 6.5.

It is possible to back up the files that make up databases so that you could restore the whole lot in the event of device failure. However, if the SQL Server is up then the files will be being accessed and won't go onto a file backup, you would therefore have to schedule a server shutdown and restart after the file backup.

This was in the days when SQL Server backups were deathly slow and we had a really big database, a file system backup was much faster. Now that they work better and considering the difficulties involved my advice is "don't even go there!".

<a href= home
