I wanna know how to make a cable to connect a smdr device to a computer. it has a LPT-1 connector(female) and the computer has a serial connector (male).

thank you...

I think you are working with a DB25 connector, not LPT-1 (which is a parallel computer printer port designation, often using a DB25 connector, but not always). DB25's have also been used for SCSI ports and Serial ports.

The SMDR units send data in serial format.

Try a DB25 to DB9 null modem cable and then run Hyperterm on your PC and watch the data (be sure you are on the correct serial port on your PC). The pinout is in the following link. It would be easier to buy a pre-made null modem cable.

In order to make any real use of the data stream, you will need to capture it with either a call accounting software package or write the catpured records to a database.

You will need one free digital station port on your KSU.
