Major Modem Driver Problem

I have a Compaq ie: junk laptop. It came loaded with windows ME, However I needed 98 SE loaded on it. I have been unable to find the correct drivers for this machine
12xl300b, and the fine folks at compaq out of the five people I have spoken with I have been told that the machine has 3 different types of modems integrated therein. I have it narrowed down to a 56k v.90 itu with a conexant chipset, but have had no success with the drivers provided by conexant. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Can you load a 33.6 or lower version?

Do you know that the modem still works?

The modem was working with Win ME. I can of course only assume there has been no physical damage.

It's probably and HCF modem.
Check softpaq 8897 for that modem in 98. Cheers,
