Dear Wordplay forum members,

Is anyone interested in taking over ownership of this forum? Due to various life circumstances, It is likely that I will be closing it soon. (I got married. I need to focus better on work when I'm at work. There are some other online interests which have become more important to me. And so on.)

I've really enjoyed playing with you all and will be sad to go.

Erik E (E²)

Erik,

I had noticed your absence lately, even after the honeymoon.

You'll be missed. I hope you'll drop in at least occasionally!

Tim

P.S. - I'm not in a position to take on a forum, but as popular as this one has been I certainly hope someone will keep it alive.

I suppose I should mention that I don't know if taking over the forum is actually possible from an adminstrative perspective, but we shall see. It materially involves paying $10 per month for the privilege.

On the same subject, what becomes of a former forum? Are they archived, still searchable, etc.? Has it even happened before?

Tim

I e-mailed Tek-Tips's owner about these questions. His main response was that Tek-Tips can resurrect any forum that goes dormant. Unless Wordplay has a new "Daddy" or "Mommy" to be the administrator, it will go dormant and be unavailable during the dormancy.

E[sup]2[/sup],

While I'm happy for you regarding your recent marriage, I'm sorry to hear that you won't be able to keep up this forum. Assuming that someone can take over, will you still be able to participate at all? I hope so - even if it is daunting to go up against your SQL dictionary. [thumbsup2]

I would happily throw my name in the hat to take the reigns if I was able, but unfortunately I can't at this time.

Any word on a successor?

What does running a forum entail? I could possibly take this on, depending on the details...
Let me know.

Basically, Bisawest acts like a "parent" to the site: making sure that the "kids" behave...no bad language...follow the "Golden Rule", et cetera. S/he has the administrative capability to kick participants out, to edit or remove threads...that sort of thing. Since s/he would be "paying the bills" so to speak, s/he makes up/administers her/his rules for the site.

How do you know you're not referring to an "it" instead of a s/he?

s/he/it could be an alien.

Maybe not. Even birds and frogs have a cloaca.

Atlast! Someone(s) what can appreciate the humor in that paricular bit of PC-ness! (Most people I've used that one on either just don't get it, or just don't think it's amusing.)
