I have just installed SQL 2005 and have moved some small databases onto it. Of these two are used throughout the day by a small number of staff (perhaps 10).

I doubt the transaction numbers will be high but I want to create a sensible plan to ensure a proper backup of these databases.

I have used the wizard to create a maintenance plan that does a full backup each night. I also started one to create a transaction log backup every two hours during our opening times. I have set these to go to file. Is there a way to set it up so the transaction log backups are deletd after eahc nights full backup. Am I right in my assumtion I will not need them after this has been completed?

yes, you can delete the files once full backup has been completed successfully.

there's many ways, but the easiest would just be to add a cleanup step in your maintanence plan where you delete old data, and only set that to fire upon successful full backup...

all can be setup in the management studio gui, just hunt around until you find the options...
