Morning guys,

I used a maintenance plan to setup a bunch of tasks for shrinking and backing up the database on a nightly basis about 2 weeks ago. At the moment all the backup files sit in directory on the disk, however, I really only need the last couple of days of full backups.

Is it possible to have the task remove the backup files which are older than 7 days old to save me doing it manually?

Many thanks all,

Heston

There should be a setting in the maintenance plan, one of the last tabs, that lets you set the retention for files.

It works about 98% of the time so you may have to check to see if it is indeed working as expected.

Thanks

Hello Jay,

Thanks for the reply to this. Unfortunately I'm unable to see these retention settings anywhere. When editing the backup task within the plan I can chose things such as 'backup should expire after x days' and 'create a subdirectory for each database' so on and so fourth but nothing at all about the retention settings and the window doesn't appear to have any tabs.

Can you explain how to get to the window which gives me those settings?

Thanks mate I really appreciate it.

Heston
