We are in the process of migrating from interbase to postgreSQL on windows XP PCs.
Typical installation is XPSP2, Pentium IV 2.6Ghz, 512-1024Mb RAM.
We can expect to generate a good few thousand inserts and updates per day, these databases will be used in production environments that run 6/7 18h/24.
(some will be 7/7 24/24....)
Actual offline time is restricted to sundays where we can run vacuums and reindexing. The database is purged to remove data older than one-three months (depending on production line configuration), by a separate program that runs a delete command in certain tables.....
Taken into consideration, can anyone suggest configuration tweaks or certain settings that really should be changed in the default installation of PG8.1.5?
Any help would be appreciated because websites give information but i have trouble making sense of it all.
Thanks in advance,
David

Sometimes it just needs a good kicking.
