First of all, I'll admit that I am little green when it comes to AD, so these may be simple questions for you to answer.

The decision was made at my company to MOVE from NT/2000 (NT Domain model) to 2003 AD -- move, not upgrade. We are installing a new 2003 server as our DC, DHCP, and DNS server. Another new server will be our Exchange server. We have a couple of existing 2000 servers that are members of the NT domain and need to join the new AD.

Using the AD Migration Wizard, I have successfully moved mailboxes across both domains. It works and I can login with the new account it creates.

My concern is with the existing 2000 servers and the shares and directories. How can I make sure that all users will have access to their files when I join the servers to the new domain?

old username with NT 4: domain1/joey
new username with 2003: domain2/joey

Thanks

ADMT uses something called SID history, if using ADMT for cmoving users to the new domain, this flag will be automatically set.

If you are creating users manually, you have to make the referral to the old account yourself.

There's info on this on the microsoft site. (and the ADMT docs !)

Hope this helps you in the right direction and lowers the stress ;-)
