Hi,

I know that this question has no doubt been asked and answered a million times but i'm gonna make it one million and one..

What are the main factors that help a website get high ratings in search engines?

I know good keywords and metatags are required but what else is needed? and any other tips that could increase my clients site in the listings..

Cheers,
Paul @ basepoint designz ltd..

I know good keywords and metatags are required

If you mean the keyword meta tag then you are mistaken.

Keywords meta's are so open to abuse they carry virtually no weight.

The description meta tag has some weight, but again not much since it's so open to abuse.

Most important aspects in my opinion, in a rough order.

Good quality incoming links to your site
Good page titles (<title> tags)
Proper use of HTML to give different text a context in the eyes of a search engine. e.g. headings in <hn> tags.
Link text
Plain text with naturally written, relevant content.

Simple rule of thumb. Build your site for your users and not to appease the great god google. Don't get hung up on doing things for search engines. They are pretty smart and can figure stuff out. If you avoid that mindset then you will most likely avoid the things you shouldn't do for search engines.
