I have used Web Capture to capture a web page and generate a PDF, which contains mail links, which use the Mailto Protocol. When accessing these links, with either Acrobat 5.0 or Acrobat Reader 5.0, IE starts, prints error (action cancelled) and then displays the Outlook mail form.

SO, the question is: Is there any way to inhibit IE from starting and/or displaying an error??

(Specific to Acrobat 5.0, just prior to the mail form appearing, a message is displayed saying that Web Capture does not recognize this protocol and would I like to try opening with IE. This message is not displayed for Reader, so I assume that this is the default and overridden).

ladybug:
Seems a year ago you posted notice of the mailto protocol error and I notice no one answered.

I just ran into the same problem and hope I can get it fixed too. I am using 5.5 and the problem still exists.

If I find an answer, I will try to let you know.

Acrobat cannot process the mailto: command as you want it to (unfortunately). This is because you are using the world wide web link function of a hyperlink, which acrobat knows requires a browser to be opened. Using mailto is a convenient way of getting an email to be sent using a browser, so it is more of a workaround which is why acrobat cannot distinguish the two actions, it is a chain of events.

However, if you open your pdf files within a browser to start with the mailto: links work like a charm, it's just down to you to get them to start in a browser first. Derren
