Hi all,

I am having a problem opening mailto: links on webpages since a clean format of my machine.

When I click on the link, my firewall alerts me that RUNDLL32.EXE is trying to conect to the internet. Whether or not I let it connect, the default mail client doens't open, it just seems to be waiting for something..

I have the default mail program set up in internet options and have tried quite a few things but still the same.

Any help appreciated.
Wullie

Assuming you are using Outlook Express, have you tried the repair function for Internet Explorer in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs? If it's not OE, what client is it?

Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply.

Outlook works, hotmail doesn't. I thought I had mentioned that it was hotmail that was causing the problem.. Sorry. [blush]

Just forget about this just now mate, this is now the least of my worries..

I tried to uninstall messenger and the machine crashed..

I restored the registry from a backup and the machine finally started but I am now nervous about restarting my machine again..

I have been having a few problems since I formatted the disk and I am just going to backup all my data while I can and then probably through the machine out of the highest window that I can find!! LOL

Thanks again mate, I appreciate it.. Wullie

Hi mate,

Just incase you are interested, I found the problem..

My virus scanner decided to alert me that my machine was infected 2 weeks after I became infected.

After the virus were removed, the mailto links work fine..

This was one of the first things I checked for at the time because of the fact that rundll.exe was trying to connect every time..

Thanks again, Wullie
