I have a MAILSweeper v4 installtion with most of the Hotfixes applied which is spliting e-mails up and sending to individual recipients.

The bigger pitcure is:

Exchange Server to MAILSweeper

MAILSweeper to Border Firewall which receives and virus scans

Firewall to Demon SMTP Relay Server

If a user sends an e-mail to 20 recipients it is relayed to the MAILSweeper (from Exchange) as a single e-mail. When the MAILSweeper relays it to the firewall it has split it up in to 20 individual e-mails.

Is there any way of stopping MAILSweeper from doing this so that is just relays and individual mail on to the firewall?

This has become and issue and there are more e-mails going out with large attchments (4MB) and so rather than sending 4MB to the internet it is sending 80MB....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is how smtp email works i think?. You could check the email from exchange to MSW but not the outgoing one.

The Exchange server sends a single mail to the MSW Box as as far as it is concerned it is a single point of relay so there is no point in spliting it.

The MSW box splits it and then sends it on to a border firewall which passes it on to an ISP relay server. If is bypass the MSW box the border firewall receives a single mail and sends a single mail on to the ISP relay server - regardless on the number of recipients.

Its only when the MSW server is involved that the mail gets split in to individual recipient mails (even if there a multiple recipients in a target domain - which should remain as a single mail in all cases).

Any other ideas?

Mike

So if the send two emails to the same domain you will get two msg in holding? I only get one msg.
I will check how my system sends it out it

Also in mine, I see by the log file, that there are two x RCPT TO: in the same SMTP connection. I take it you only see one RCPT TO:

It looks like your MSW thinks its the final relay for mail. You need to check your SMTP Relay, Routing entries.
I have confirmed that I can make my system behave like yours by removing an entry in my Routing.
You need to have a forced rout with your domain as the mask and an additional route with mask * with host set to your ISP address.
