Hi,

Im looking at doing a simple mailshot app, but im not sure on best pratice for the to addresses. Should i list them in the bcc as to avoid them appearing in the header?

Thanks

I'd imagine he's talking about a 'Newsletter Subscription' type of system, i've done a few little ones in the past whilst pottering around.

I've not tested them with masses of address's so cant really talk about performance, but i've seen discussions on people pushing 10,000 messages through it without to many issues.

I guess you have options really, you can pass one mail with all the address's on it, or loop through the query generating a mail for each.

The loop method would be more appealing for me as it would allow you to customize the content for each one, and you're also then creating a nice organised mail que.

If you're hitting lots of people, then make sure they are all subscribers to the service, and you allow them a method to unsubscribe in the bottom of the mail as a link or somthing.

Well, I'd agree with TamedTech's idea on looping through the query and sending an email of each user. This way you can add user-specific content like: "Hello Firstname Lastname".

As far as performance goes, cfmail is very fast the only issue might be is with the server to see if it can handle, say 20000 mail ques. The most emails i've sent like this is about 1500, and that was in less then a blink of an eye.

What do you expect the query result to return? More then 5000?? More then 10000??
