mails not saved in sent items

I have a win Xp pc and have lotus notes 6 installed. All of a sudden mails have stopped getting saved in the sent items folder.. I do have the option checked in the user preferences but even then the mails are not getting saved in the sent items.
any solutions...
thanks in advance..
