Hi,

I am using Outlook 2000 with exchange 5.5 on nt server 4.

today suddenly i found that all the mails in my inbox has got deleted.

I have a backup of information store, will i be able to restore only the mails in my mailbox.

If yes, How do i do that.

please help

regards
yunus

It depends if you're using a brick level backup solution or not. If you're using NTBackup you're out of luck. You have to restore the whole server in order to recover you're email.

Cheers.

hi,
Yes i found out that i dont have chance of restoring only my mailbox. But i want to nail down the cause of the problem, This is the second incident in 4 months.

I have anti-virus running on my gateway level and client level with proper definition update. What could be the problem of such a mishap.

Also i would like to know that, The server will immediately remove it from information store or will it keep for some days. I have retention period set for 2 days.

Do i have any chance on that front.

Regards
Yunus

Is your antivirus designed for Exchange? Is it actually scanning all files on your exchange server or just your information store?

Be sure to exempt the following files from being scanned:

dsamain.exe, eseutil.exe, isinteg.exe, mtacheck.exe, perfwiz.exe, store.exe.

If you have a retention period of 2 days, the email is recoverable for 3 days from the day of deletion providing that you deleted it through your deleted items and it just didn't suddenly delete on it own or get nuked by antivirus.

Have a look in your quarantine and your AV logs to see if your antivirus nuked them

Cheers.

hi,

i have excluded the entire EXCHSVR folder itself. Also in the client realtime protection option PST,EML,and MSG extention are excluded.AV Logs also doesnt suggest anything.

I think this is some outlook bug.

Any other ideas, I even dont have the auto-arhcive feature enabled.

Rgds
Yunus
