Greets,

I have just installed and configure qmail but when I try and check mail as local user I get the following error:

mail: /home/trancemission/Maildir: Is a directory

I am puzzled as to why I cannot check mail. Some configs to help(?):

~/.profile:

BLOCKSIZE=K; export BLOCKSIZE
EDITOR=vi; export EDITOR
PAGER=more; export PAGER

# set ENV to a file invoked each time sh is started for interactive use.
ENV=$HOME/.shrc; export ENV

[ -x /usr/games/fortune ] && /usr/games/fortune freebsd-tips
MAIL=/home/trancemission/Maildir; export MAIL

/etc/login.conf

default: :passwd_format=md5: :copyright=/etc/COPYRIGHT: :welcome=/etc/motd: :setenv=MAIL=/home/$/Maildir/,BLOCKSIZE=K,FTP_PASSIVE_MODE=YES: :path=/sbin /bin /usr/sbin /usr/bin /usr/games /usr/local/sbin /usr/local/bin /usr/X11R6/bin ~/bin: :nologin=/var/run/nologin: :cputime=unlimited: :datasize=unlimited: :stacksize=unlimited: :memorylocked=unlimited: :memoryuse=unlimited: :filesize=unlimited: :coredumpsize=unlimited: :eek:penfiles=unlimited: :maxproc=unlimited: :sbsize=unlimited: :vmemoryuse=unlimited: :priority=0: :ignoretime@: :umask=022:

Not sure if somebody can help, I can send more configs etc.

Many Thanks

Marcus

If it's logical, it'll work!

Simply logging in [ssh] as trancemission and typing mail. I have the binary in /usr/bin/mail. A man mail gives:

MAIL(1) FreeBSD General Commands Manual MAIL(1)

NAME
mail, Mail, mailx -- send and receive mail

SYNOPSIS
mail [-EiInv] [-s subject] [-c cc-addr] [-b bcc-addr] to-addr ...
[-sendmail-option ...]
mail [-EiInNv] -f [name]
mail [-EiInNv] [-u user]

I cannot find a version.

I am running FreeBSD 4.9 -STABLE

I have not replaced the binary since install I don't believe.

Thanks

Marcus

Application 'mail' is normally a mbx style reader and not a maildir reader. You are trying to tell 'mail' to read the file called /Maildir/ which you know to be a folder.

Try 'pine' as your reader. It likes Maildirs. also 'elm'

Many thanks for you replies, I have read up on mailbox types and understanding.

Currently throwing mutt a stick ;)

Thanks
