Mailbox - size of database files

Please help me understand this:

I was going through each db file, in my "ofuser" directory. I assumed that the higher size of the DB file, the more old junk mail the user was saving.

As I went around the office, I recorded everyone's user ID (GroupWise) and had my list of people to address 'space' issues with.

B a c k f i r e ~ The first users db was like 3 MB. However, he didn't have but a few old email. Nothing that would take up 3 MB of space. Am I simply looking in the wrong directory to find how much space someone's email folder(s) are taking up?

Thanks.

An easy way of gathering statistics is in NWAdmin>GroupWise View>right-click a post office>choose Mailbox Maintenance>check Stucture, Contents, Collect statistics, and Fix problems (might as well since you are there). Click on tab "Databases" & check User & Message. Click on tab "Results" & check Administrator. If you are an Administrator you will get a report about users and the databases. You can also do the same procedure starting with a user instead of the post office.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

Thanks Mark -

I ran the steps you suggested above. Appeared to have worked.

But where can I view the results? I am an admin, but haven't received anything. Should I have? Or do I need to retrieve it somewhere?

In nwadmin goto your Domain object (not in GW View, in NDS Tree)>details>in the Information tab at the bottom is Administrator. Add full context user name there. You can also write the log to a file. In the Mailbox Maintenance window where the repair is done, at the bottom is a tab "Logging". Enter a full path and filename, UNC naming works best, give it a .log or .txt extension for ease of opening. Click verbose for detailed info, it will take a little longer but may be helpful.

Good luck,

Mark ;-)

Ok Mark -

In the administration part, I added my name: ME.DOMAIN
- and I still have not received anything.

I went back to the Maintenance, under logging, I entered a file name, and checked the 'verbose' option. I was going to enter the full UNC, but it only allowed 12 characters.

When the report is finished, do you know where it will save it by default?

Thanks again for your assistance!

Ok, for the default location:
By default, the file is created in the <PO>\WPCSOUT\OFS directory, where <PO> is the post office directory. To redirect the log file to another location, specify a path and filename. Use a UNC path, or make sure the mapped drive path is from the perspective of the POA. Click Verbose Logging to log detailed information. Verbose logging may produce large log files and slow execution.

As far as the Administrator name, you might have to down your GW server (or at least the agents running on it). You might try running a "synchronze" on the domain (in GW View). I've not had any problems with it but it's been a long time since I set that up.

Good luck,

Mark ;-)
