Hi There: I'm totally new at this and my first problem is to figure out why only one user keeps getting more messages than she is supposed to get. The limit is 4 minutes, she gets at least 30 minutes. We are using Meridian Mail and a 61c. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Just so I'm clear on what you are asking, I need a little more information. Is the entire box size only 4 minutes? Or is the message limit 4 minutes for a single message? Does she have a different class of service than other users?

Mike

According to the software, the voice storage limit is 4
the maximum message length is 3:00
and the class of service is standard

to add to the confusion, I just sat on the phone for 8 minutes trying to fill her mailbox.

After you put the one message in, did you try to put in a second before clearing the first one?

That's really strange. If you look in the Class Of Service settings, there are fields for Voice Storage Limit in minutes, Maximum Message Length in (MM:SS), and a few lines down Maximum Call Answering Length in (MM:SS). I set the Maximum Message Length to 01:00, the Maximum Call Answering Length to 01:00, and Voice Storage Limit to 2 (You have to change this one last because it cannot be smaller than the other limits). I got the Full mailbox message alert.

Above are the actual settings from this user, and as far as I can tell all users have the same settings for this class of service.

I don't see the line for Voice Storage Limit. You said it is set at 4 minutes, right? How many classes of service do you have? If more than one, are you sure she is set the same as everyone else?

Mike

Almost every place I have worked the standard was 15 min for staff and 30 min for managers and 45 min for VP and above.

Did you ever figure this one out, i seem to have the same problem....

Hey jackiejack: No not yet. At least the problem is still there, but I talked to a Nortel technician, and he told me that even though there is a supposed limit, people can still leave messages all day to the same mailbox. Therefore
I question the value limits at all. I will go back to them because I just received a note from one guy who wants all limits removed from his voice mail because he gets a lot of longwinded technical messages. I'll let you know what I find out.

ONE OF THE VALUES IS FOR YOUR ANSWER MESSAGE THE OTHER IS FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU CAN RECORD A MESSAGE LOOK IN THE MANUAL, IT'S A LITTLE CONFUSING

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

The purpose of voicemail is to recieve new messages. If you exceed you storage limit, the MerMail will continue to rec the messages but the user can NOT do anything with the mail box except listen to and erase the messages. I once had to delete a mailbox that had 4 hours of storage used and almost 1500 messages. It almost locked up the system. I have not researched it but I think you can set up the the class of service to block the mailbox from accepting any messages if the mailbox has exceeded its capacity

Depending of the Meridian Mail software, if your release is 13 or bigger, if the user no read your messages in a predeterminate time, the messages automatically is erased. This feature is programmed in the class of service of the mailbox.
If release is belove of 13, the mailbox will continue to record the messages until the user read your messages and the manually delete one to one

I can’t believe that no one got this right yet
Under class of services admin
With rel 13 there is line that says

Receive massages if mail box is full no and yes
All you have to do is select NO
