2 PO's, 1 Domain, 5.5e last service pack applied. Recently a user created a vacation rule while I was also away on vacation. The users mailbox replied to an outside address which also had a autoreply set. This created a loop and while it did not crash my system it left thousands upon thousand of emails in this person's mailbox. I ran an expire and reduce to clean up this person's mailbox. I can't tell if the expire and reduce is still running or if it has failed. The PO is still processing other mail, should I just leave things alone until I get an admin message on the maintenance, or restart the poa? And how can you stop this kind of thing from reoccurring?

Some maintenance procedures take longer than others. And since the ADA is now part of the PO agent. Time has to be alloted for administrative processes along with routine processes (delivering mail). I would give the expire/reduce at least 24hrs. to complete. As for stopping this in the future, I beleive the best way is to educate the users on setting up a proper vacation rule. As long as the user has control over creating rules this will always be a possible problem. You might be able to do something with the "MailBomb" feature for future incidents, but this is not really what it was intended for.
