we have a few users complaining that they mailbox is exceeding their default size as specified by the Information Store properties.
When i check their mailbox on Outlook 98 i find nothing in their mailbox, but i find the mailbox size given by the IS is show a large amount (kb). What can cause the IS to show the incorrect amount of space wheb there is nothing in the users mailbox. These users are unable to send any email for days now. This is the first time that we have this problem on such a large scale.

Check all the folders like contacts, Calendar, sent items and deleted items. Also check the Journal folders I found that some outlook client were configured to journal all ms word, and excel documents.

You can use the clean mailbox feature from the Exchange admin program and delete all Journal entries. See it you get space back. Make sure you also check the client outlook settings so that you avoid future problems.

good luck Michaël J. H. Warnon
