I posted this question in the sendmail forum but got no responce so I thought I'd try it here. I am using sendmail for my smtp server and qpopper for my pop3 server. I can send mail to the outside world and also receive mail. I want to be able to let some people use my server just like they would their ISP's mail server. When I try to use it from a remote machine, it won't connect to the smtp or pop3 server. I get nothing in my mail log. I've also checked my firewall to see if it was blocking relaying and it was ok. I'm at the point where I'll take any advise, even if it's wrong.)

Hi,

To determine whether its firewall related, the first check I would do is to try to telnet to both port 25 and port 110 from outside. If you can't do this then I'd be looking at the ports being blocked somewhere along the route. The next test would be to verify if any inbound stuff works from the same source, e.g. ftp / ssh / http . This way you can start to get an idea if its only certain ports that are a problem or if nothing inbound seems to work - that might be for various reasons.

Hope this helps to start...
