Mail Relaying using Sendmail under Sun Solaris 8

I have set up an in house mail server for internal mail. The external mail server is hosted by my ISP.
I want to relay e-mail messages from the internal server to the external server, the reason for this is if the internal server does not know the e-mail address then it will route the message to the external server and the external server will send the e-mail to wherever it has to go on the WWW. Does anyone understand or know how the can help me???

In the sendmail.cf file there is an entry to define a smtp relay server. By default this is empty:

# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DS

Change this to:

DS<your_ISP_smtp_server>

But you will need DNS configured or a host entry so sendmail can resolve the smtp server's name. Alternatively you can enter the IP address instead of the host name in the .cf file.

Another complication may be that your ISP's mailserver won't allow relaying, so your server's domain name must be acceptable by the ISP to allow relaying. You may need to contact them to add it to their relay allowed list.

Ok, i entered the remote SMTP servers IP address in the SENDMAIL.CF file. But if i try to send an e-mail to an external address i.e. user@hotmail.com i get the following error:

550 <user@hotmail.com>... Host unknown (Name server: 203.4.212.90: host not found)

Does any body have any suggestions on what is causing this error?
