Here is a diagram of our setup. Lisa and Theresa are on the same subdomain. The mail server is on another subdomain.

Using the netscape mail client Theresa can send mail to Lisa but when Theresa tries to send mail to the world she gets the message - "sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)"

We use red hat linux 7.3 and qmail.

What do I need to do so Theresa can mail out to the world using her mail client netscape. Also Theresa can connect to the mailserver and mail out to the world if she uses squirrelmail. She needs to be able to use netscape mail client, however.

All suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

p.s. I think mail is getting through FROM the world to Theresa's netscape mail client just fine.

I installed qmail using a tarball.

I thought I configured qmail to allow the subnet but maybe I missed a file or didn't execute the command correctly.

I went into /etc/tcp.smtp and put 1.2.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""

Then I said
tcprules /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb /etc/tcp.smtp.tmp < /etc/tcp.smtp

Then I rebooted the mail server.

But it doesn't work.

Also this could be very important.

We just installed a dhcp server.
Could this be what is fouling things up?

How do we properly set up mail relaying with dynamic ip addresses in our lan?

Do we need to do something special?

Ok I fixed it. I looked at the log for the mail server and noticed the server was seeing everybody as logging in from the gateway ip address, not their computer ip addresses. The gateway was a different subdomain. Once I added that subdomain BINGO. It worked.

I'm glad!
