I need to be able to send email message/reports from our AIX server to our Exchange Server 2003 user(s). When I test using my email address I don't see the email in my Outlook 2003 inbox. In the mqueue I looked at the file and it is saying:

MDeferred: Connection reset by mail.mycompany.com.

Any ideas???

You should start by checking the logs on mail.mycompany.com - it shouldn't barf without whinging.

Question: mail.mycompany.com is just a MX record on our T1 DNS servers that points to our in house Exchange 2003 server. Where on the server are the log kept. I looked and couldn't find it.

Thanks.

Some send mail straight to the Exchange servers port 25 by adding the option in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf
DSexchsvr01

I send all my mail to a Solaris Sendmail server which then sends it through to exchange.

Well I am able to send the email from AIX server directly to the Exchange server using name@domain.local email alias. But this software we have needs us to send it to name@mycomapany.com instead. So it needs to leave the AIX server go to the internet and then come back to the Exchange server. I know it sounds stupid but don't ask I am trying to fight with their sense of reasoning but they keep on saying I need to allow my Exchange server to except email from my AIX server. Let me know what you guys thinks. Thanks.

Do a nslookup on the AIX box to see if it can resolve the MX server for mycompany.com

nslookup
set type=MX
mycompany.com

should return the valid IP of your Exchange server

Norm,

I did as you said and it resolved to our mail.mycompany.com ip address. So the AIX is resolving but why this message in mqueue file of the AIX server then: MDeferred: Connection reset by mail.mycompany.com.

Thanks,
