Mail package

How can I send a file in pdf format using the mail or smtp package?
Whenever i try to open the mailed file I get an error stating that the file does not begin with '%PDF-'.

I have had this problem before and got around it by zipping the file up! By creating a .zip file it somehow preserves the integrity of the .pdf file.

Seems to work for me.
