Hi Sara,

There are a couple of ways of approaching this kind of problem:

1: Run a pop3 server on your AIX box and pop3 clients (Netscape? Outlook Express?) on your NT workstations so that your users can read their mail.

2: Run a sendmail gateway on your NT server that accepts SMTP mail from the AIX box and passes it onto whatever backend you're using for cc:Mail (Exchange?)

Which kind of approach were you thinking of? [sig]<p>Mike<br><a href=mailto:michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com>michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com</a><br><a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site</a><br>Making mistakes, so you don't have to. &lt;grin&gt;[/sig]

hi Mike
Thanks for your response.
I want the second approach.........i.e to configure AIX sendmail in such way that
some files when used/modifed by a specific user the event should be mailed to admin
on NT box.
On AIX side i have to write an script for that purpose or enable accounting but
problem is that how to mail to NT box(ccmail)
what settings on NT/ccmail side
and what on AIX side(sendmail)????????
i once again thanks for your prompt reply.

Hi Sara,

Ok then, that's all quite do-able.

The AiX side is the easiest. It's probably just a matter of adding an entry in the /etc/hosts file so that you can ping the NT box. Then, once the NT side is configured, it's just a matter of sending mail to user@your.nt.box

The NT side will need you to acquire the Microsoft SMTP gateway for Exchange so that it can send and receive SMTP mail from the AiX box. I've never done this, but I know a man who has and it didn't seem to cause him much trouble.
