Hi ALL,
We just got a couple of new AIX S85, pre-installed with AIX 4.3.2 ML 09.
I think I have a small problem. I can not send mail out from one of the servers. I dont have sendmail running.
The other server I can send mail out fine.
I tested it by sending mail from command line, like so
echo "hello " |mail -s "test mail" mailacct@somewhere.com
substituting the mailacct for a real mail address.
I know this must be a simple problem. The error message I get is the following:
... while talking to smtp-in2.med.cornell.edu.:
>>> MAIL From:<mailid@raven> SIZE=44
<<< 501 5.1.8 <mailid@raven>... Domain of sender address mailid@raven does n
ot exist
501 mailid@nyp.org... Data format error

Where the mailid is my mail id.
These servers are not in DNS yet.
The funny thing is that one of the servers works and the other one doesn't.
Is it possible that the mail server is blocking this?

Any help would be appreciated greatly ! ! !

Thank You

Hi,

Do you have nameserver defined in /etc/resolv.conf file?
It looks like nameserver problem - sendmail cannot resolv names.

I agree. Remeber that sendmail uses DNS to handle routing, even though your machine my have /etc/hosts as the first place to look. Try ping and then sendmail -v.
