I'm designing a marketing piece that will go out as letter but found it too difficult to lay out well in Word. I have designed something nice in ID and was planning to send it out in PDF, but have just realised that I need to do a mail merge -- is there any way I can do this using InDesign or PDF?

Many thanks
Sam

Depends on your version of ID. Take a look at the Window menu and see if you have Data Merge. If so, go to help and look up how to do it because it's not something that's easy to explain in a few sentences or paragraphs.

I have it in ID3 via a Pagmeaker Plugin pack that ws distributed with Creative Suite Premium. Don't know if they included the feature in 4.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

I did a very convoluted data merge once. I basically did the data merge in Word/Excel and saved as file instead of printing - it only contained the names & addresses.

Then I designed my pretty letter on a master page in ID and included a text box for the merge text.

Then I imported the text into the document and let it flow.
