Mail merge wizard Excel/Word (XP) doesn't work

I tried for first time to do mail merge with Excel database and a Word document - comes back with msg cannot open data source or similar wording - if I try a merge with Outlook a similar problem occurs - states database engine problem. Whay's going on?

Have you tried doing a repair or re-install of Office?
Have you got the latest service pack & upgrades for Office?
It may just be that a file or files are corrupt & require replacing. Try the above if you haven't already done so.
