Mail Merge in Word XP is NOT suppressing empty fields

I created a mail merge document using Word 2000 and (Excel 2000 as the data source). When I use Office 2000 to execute the merge, everything works fine. When I tried to open the document in Word XP and execute the merge, blank lines are showing up in the address for those entries that do not have a line 2 address. I cannot figure out why this is happening or how to fix it.

Everything I've looked up and tried does not help. If anyone has any insight as to why this might be happening, please help!

It was so easy in Office 2000, and now it's broken in Office XP.
