mail merge causes word 2007 to crash

1608 contacts in outlook 2007 using exchange server. my client performs the mail merge in word 2007 and once it finds her contact list word crashes. any ideas

I saw this comment and wonder whether it has any relevance for you?

"Keep in mind that Outlook offers better filtering capability than Word. So, while you can begin a mail merge in Word, it's easier to start it in Outlook".
