Mail merge & Label wizard puts too much space between fields

I have a table with names and addresses. When I try to do a mail merge and I insert the fields FirstName and LastName there is a huge space between the two fields although there is no such space inserted.

This also occurs when I use the label wizard to make labels. The odd thing is that this is not universal, some records contain the space and others are formatted just fine.

Can anyone help?

Combine the two fields

Name: [FirstName] & " " & [LastName]

This will adjust the space with each name
