Hi,
I hope that you can help me here
/usr/bin/mail is gone with:

# >/usr/bin/mail

Can anybody tell me how to restore it?

Thanks in advance

The simplest will be to restore the file from backup tape , thats if you got one ?

Depending on the version of AIX installed , type in :-

lslpp -w /usr/bin/mail
This will tell you which fileset the mail executable belongs to. Then do lslpp -f (fileset) to see what files
are contained in the fileset. If you have tailored these files then make copies of them , otherwise restore the fileset from the AIX installation CD.

Hope this helps

amins,

You will need to perform a restore from your mksysb or a root level down backup.

For example if you have a mksysb taken via rmt0:

cd /

restore -s4 -xvqf /dev/rmt0.1 ./usr/bin/mail

Best of luck

or simply restore it from another, working system

I would just copy in a working binary. If you have one. Otherwise, tape or CD.
