Ok, here's the problem. I have a linux server in my garage that runs automated backups of my web servers that are hosted in a professional NOC. I want the backup server to send me emails on a weekly basis with the backup status, but since my ISP blocks outgoing mail, I can't. When I send thru outlook, I merely change the outgoing port to 26 and it works fine (my web server runs an alternate mail server on port 26). Is there any way to make the backup server that I have in my house work this way as well?

I believe the easiest way is to change the value of smtp in /etc/services to 26 and restart your mailer.

You can also redefine this in /etc/sendmail.mc or sendmail.cf, look for the line:

O DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA

(smtp refers to the string "smtp" in /etc/services)

and you will have to setup relay to your web server in the sendmail.mc /sendmail.cf.
