Hey all,

I have a query re: the way mail is recieved from my ISP....
Im using exchange server and what I want to know is when there is a mail sent to me andvia my ISP, which is then recieved by my server, what is the process of the recieving.....(sorry this is hard to explain!!) I have two options which I would like to know which is the correct one...

If there is mail in the ISP's server waiting for me when Im on line does....

a) The ISP send the mail directely to my server without asking.

or

b) Does my server check the ISP's server for mail and then retrieve it...which I think is the correct one..and if so how often does my server check for mail (assuming for arguement sake that Im dialed up 24/7)

Cause I know that when people send me mail it arraives pretty much a minute later once they send it and Im on line...

(Im using Winnt4 and Exchange Server 5.5, with dial up via and ISDN line, set to dial every 15mins.)

hope someone can shed some light on this...!!

thanks. Jay~
