Hello all,

I'm trying to help a friend restore all of the emails in his inbox that are now missing. He had 300-400 emails in his inbox but after a problem this mornign they're all gone. Here's the scenario.

This morning he called me because he kept getting these same 54 emails over and over again every time he checked his mail, most of which were spam. It sounds to me like one of the emails was corrupt or somethign and so when his computer ran to get new newest 54 emails it was getting to about 52 and then failing and so for some reason it was grabbing all of the emails again each time he connected. The emails were not being left on the server, but somehow he had accumulated about 10 copies of each email. After he called me we logged in to the webmail interface at our hosting company and were able to delete a couple of strange looking emails from the server and then his email seemed to function fine.

Well, he carefully went through his inbox deleting all of the copies of these new SPAM messages, which brought them all to the TRASH. He then deleted his Trash. Now, somehow, his inbox is completely empty, and so is his Trash, but he swears he didn't delete the emails in his inbox.

I'm inclined to think that either he mistakenly deleted these emails, or somehow the mail program hit a limit at a couple hundred emails in his inbox and started moving the old emails to his trash, then he just blew away everything in the trash, not realizing off of his inbox messages were in there.

Regardless, he had lost all of his inbox emails and needs to find a way to get them back. Is there any way to retreive emails once the trash has been deleted? Or is there any sort of way to roll-back to this morning? I'm not real familiar with Macs. Any chance of getting these messages back at all?

Thanks,
Scott
