I have email setup on our SCO Openserver 5.0.5 Server. On my old desktop PC, I would have it check the server mail, then automatically distribute it to folders, in case I needed to look at any of it. I beleive all root mail is set to go to user donald (forwarded), but I don't have a .forward file in the root directory. I can't remember how I had acheived this, & I wonder if that is the root of the problem I'm about to describe.

Telnetted & Logged into the UNIX Server:
***************************************
Sending mail from root...successfully send mail & recipient can read.
Sending mail to root...Acts like it is sending just fine...
when i check root's mail, it says
"No mail in /usr/spool/mail/root."
***************************************

Outlook Express.
***************************************
Sending mail to root@pump.com.....fails with this message.
-------------
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: test', Account: 'donald@pump.com', Server: '132.147.160.10', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 No valid addresses', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F
------------
Checking root's mail from outlook express....it acts like the username or password are wrong...and I'm typing it correctly.
****************************************

I can both send & receive UNIX & Outlook Express for the account 'donald'. It did have a lockfile that appeared around the same time & I had to remove that. All has been fine since.

Sorry for this being so lengthy, but I'm trying to be descriptive so as to help resolve this issue.

Everything else on the server has been running fine to my knowledge.

Thanks,

Donald (Zoonkai) Dixon

My apologies...This problem started around the time I set-up my new destop PC and was setting up the mail accounts on it. They never didn work from the start, on the new machine.
