I want to setup auto attendant to have the ability in the message to transfer to specified lines... "for sales prees 10" bla bla bla... it is setup very close to default settings with all vmb's setup for the lines... I have winSPM 9.0 to configure... thanks for the help!

Voice Mail can transfer to extensions, not lines.

Also, the programming you will need to change will be in the Voice Mail system, rather than with WINSPM.

In order to give you accurate instructions, we will need more specific info on what you are trying to accomplish, along with the Type and Release of System and the Voice Mail.

system is r2 with merlin messaging, and I want to be able to transfer to extensions, thats what I meant...

Do you thinking of something along the lines of "To reach John Smith press '10'. To reach Ann Jones press '11'"?

You would use "Selector Codes" to route calls based on which buttons the caller presses.

Exactly.... the main number would go to extension 10 voice mail where you could "press 11 for John, press 12 for Mary..." where would I set that up?

Dave

Understand, the Auto Attendant allows you to dial an extension or a calling group (or other things) with a SINGLE DIGIT menu choice.

Based on what you are saying, I think there is probably a better way to do this.

First off, I would recommend using 3 digit numbers instead of 2 digit to have more flexibility.

Second, is "SALES" only 1 extension or a group of extensions?

It sounds like you need to completely plan out what you want to happen and get a consultant from this forum to help you make that happen.

ok... if AA can do single digit transfer to extensions thats fine... does not matter... When a call comes in it will go to extension 10 voice mail (witch is currently set as operator...) then I would like the option to transfer to the other lines in the office through pressing button(s), this is to eliminate a need for an operator... mind you this is a small office and most likely will remain so, I don't think I need 3 digit extensions... here is the line plan:

10 - operator
11 - 17 extensions
all with voice mail from merlin messaging

thats all, not to tough...

Dave

To do what you are trying to do, you will have to program the Voice Mail with Extension 10 as the AUTO ATTENDANT.

You will then have to set CHOICE 1 to be "DIRECT EXTENSION TRANSFER".

That way, any extension starting with 1, could be reached by dialing it.

Ext. 10 is NOT what answers and offers the caller the option of transferring to other extensions. That is the Auto Attendant.

Do you want the Auto Attendant to answer immediately, or do you want it for back up to a live answering person?

Once you get callers there, they will have the option of dialing extension numbers to reach individual extensions (Lines are what connects to the phone company, to talk to the outside world)

Define what you want to happen, perhaps with a sample script, and I'm sure someone can assist you in setting it up.

I would like the auto attendant to answer after 3 or 4 rings so if someone is present they can answer... if no one answers then have the ability to choose to transfer to any of the extensions, if this needs to be in AA so be it... if nothing is pressed I would like it to transfer to extension 10 "general mail"...

I hope that explains what I am looking for...

btw... what default extension is the auto attendant?

Dave

The Auto Attendant is NOT an extension. It is.........
the Auto Attendant.

What you need to do is assign the lines to an unused calling group, delay overflow it to voice mail, cause it to be answered by the Auto Attendant, and make mailboxes for the phones.

TTT, don't you sometimes set up the main extension as an Auto Attendant?

I do, and that's what I am proposing here.

Then, l0rdsatan could assign 10 as the General Mail Box owner.

I do it that way a lot. In fact, I am doing that at a location tomorrow.

I usually only do that if the calls come in via PRI to the operator's SA buttons. For LS/GS, I like for the Operator to also have a personal mailbox. But it would certainly work in this setup, depending on needs.

Yup, Me too.

However, in a small system as is described, I think that will be the best solution. Again, it was stated that they only want the General Mail box.

The one I am doing tomorrow, INSISTED on being able to push a button to get things to go to the AA immediately.

Thus, 100 is the AA, and the owner of the lines and the General Mailbox receiver.

This is great info, can you guys both spell out exactly how to do each suggested methodology? That would be great, I am kinda new to the programming on this switch and I can poke around a bit but general instructions would be beyond helpful... thanks in advance... I apologize for my misuse of terminology I fully understand the distinct differences between lines, extensions, and auto attendant...

Dave

So can you guys tell me step by step how to do that? Thanks in advance...

Dave

I would suggest going to support.avaya.com and downloading the manuals, like the System Planning Guide, Feature Reference, System Managers Guide, Merlin Messaging, for example and get some background on the Legend/Magix. This way you will have a better understanding of the system.

Happy reading!
