My firm has a Merlin Magix (R2) switch.

I want to have another phone setup to cover reception. Our receptionist is always in the copy room, and misses calls. The copy room phone is setup as primary coverage for reception. Here's the problem -- when in the copy room, the receptionist hears and answers the first incoming call without a problem. Subsequent incoming calls (while she is on the phone) do not even ring at the copy room phone.

Is there a way for another phone to cover reception, and have access to all the incoming lines? She doesn't need the full functionality of the reception phone while in the copy room, she just needs to be able to handle (or at least hear) multiple incoming calls.

Thanks for your help.

If you have any T&R (POTS) telephones, you could set one of those up as a cover for the operator in the Copy Room, and have her do a pick up on that with the phone she is currently using in there, rather than cover the recep phone. (The added T&R phone could act as a BELL !)

Also, increase the number of SA buttons on the copy room multi line phone.

Thanks for your help, merlinman.

Good idea on using a POTS phone as a ringer bell! That would save some money over a "ringer bell solution" that our vendor is trying to sell us for $200.

About adding "SA Buttons" on the copy room phone: I have six on there now, but whenever a call comes into reception, the copy room phone only "rings" on the one button assigned as "privary cover." How can I get the incoming reception calls to come through the copy room's phone's SA buttons instead?

Only by doing a pickup of the operator's extension will the call move to the copy room's SA buttons. You could leave the coverage button on the copy room's phone and add the pickup ext. xxx button, and train your receptionist to press the pickup button before lifting the handset. This will pull the call from the coverage button to the SA button, leaving the coverage button clear for the next call. BUT, if she picks up the handset first, the call is answered on that coverage button and you're right back to where you started.

Got it, that makes a lot of sense.

Nice to know that this forum is here! I'll keep a look out and see if there's anything I can help with. I don't know all that much about this switch, but I've delt with enough "little issues" that I might be able to give some advice!
