Greetings, I just got thrown this switch to begin programming. Merlin Magix, no voicemail. 3 412 cards, a 100R INA card, a DS1 card, and a 016 analog card. With a 2MB Translation Card in the CKE5. I believe its ver 2.1 Hope that made sense ;)

Now the questions.

1. I've been learning about the WINSPM and I got my little 355AF adapter. What is the default password on the Merlin Magix?

2. Im having an integrated T-1 dropped in, 6 channels voice, 12 data. From what I understand from my research is the 100R INA acts as CSU/DSU and a Router. So I can go right from the smartjack into the 100R INA and I ignore the DS1 card completely. And the 100R INA will split the channels and output to my hub/switch for the 12 data. Correct?

2a. This being the case, I understand that programming the 100r INA in not done through the console port on the system but a console port on the card itself? Correct? Do I use WINSPM to program that as well. Also their is suppose to be a document on the 100R INA itself. could someone point me to that

2b. DID's thorugh by T1 are set-up, I need wink start from the carrier and tell him what digits to send. Can I then translate the digits to ring particular station AND show an alphanumeric description of the digits that were recieve (ie Recieve digits 2311 through T1, ring ext 35 display shows "SALES CALL" and recd digits 2312, ring ext 35, display shows "SERVICE CALL")

3. I think I will be best served programming from scratch as I dont know what programming exists currently. How do I go about that.

Enough for now my brain hurts ;) THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

My name is Erik Williams, I have almost 10 years on the Merlin products. If you are going to connect to the Merlin Legend/Magix via a 355A adapter no password is needed. You only need a password when *10 is dialed to get into the switch. Make sure you do a system erase before starting the programming procedure, they are notorious about have a little curruption from the factory. I would prefer using the 100 DSI card versus the INA board for the T-1. Make sure you do not use loop start emulation on the T-1, Avaya does not support this and you will lock up channels. Always set up loopstart disconnect under lines and trunks. For the DID question you don't have the same manipulation as a PRI. I hope this helps you out

I have an older Lucent document for PortMaster Command Line programming. This is the syntax for programming the INA board. I have an INA board setup for tandem networking (splitting voice and data channels) and it works great. PRI voice so I can use centralized VM, pass caller ID, have better call control, etc.

You can plug into the console port of the INA board to program it directly, or else use WinSPM in pass-through mode. You will see the INA option appear in the left hand icon list when connected through. When you have established network connectivity you can just telnet into the INA. I also have a PMVision java app, which is a GUI representation for programming it from the Lucent days.

Let me know your e-mail address and I can send you the stuff over. Personally I would definitely program it as PRI and would favor consolidating the voice/data stuff in one board. Once it's programmed it is set.

Yes its bhax@convergedtech.net

Both of you have said go with PRI, what is the benefit of using the PRI over the Integrated T-1?

Thanks!

With PRI there's better call control, faster message light updates, caller ID display, faster general performance, better transfer handling, etc. Using a T1 is like stepping back 25 years and dealing with slower performance and fewer features.

BTW I e-mailed you the PortMaster docs. I need to FTP the PMVision app since it's 5 MB. Let me know a place I can upload it to.
